Federal Docket Updates: Liana Shanti Defamation Verdict and Criminal Case

Liane Wilson (“Liana Shanti”) is a party to two cases in the United States District Court for the District of Hawaii: the federal criminal case United States v. Wilson, 1:19-cr-00105, and the civil defamation case she brought through her company, Life Mastery Network LLC v. Haygarth, 1:25-cv-00297. In August 2026 a federal jury unanimously rejected the defamation claims brought in Liana Shanti’s name and returned a verdict of just over $40 million against her company. Both dockets are public.

Civil defamation case — Life Mastery Network LLC v. Haygarth, 1:25-cv-00297 (D. Haw.): the $40 million jury verdict

This is the Liana Shanti defamation lawsuit: Liane Wilson’s company, Life Mastery Network LLC (doing business as Liana Shanti Enterprises), together with Wilson herself, sued former students and their family members for defamation over four statements attributed to them. In a 22 May 2026 order the court held that Wilson is a general-purpose public figure. The defendants counterclaimed for defamation and false light. The case was tried to a jury in Honolulu from 3 August 2026 before United States District Judge Jill A. Otake.

On 13 August 2026 the jury returned its special verdict forms (Docket Entries 245–255), each answer requiring “the unanimous agreement of all members of the jury”: the plaintiffs’ defamation claims failed, and the jury found for the defendants on their counterclaims, awarding compensatory and punitive damages that total just over $40 million against Life Mastery Network LLC and Liane Wilson. The verdict is the jury’s finding; at the time of publication (October 2026) motions for entry of judgment under Rule 54(b) had been filed and no final judgment had yet been entered.

Federal criminal case — United States v. Wilson, 1:19-cr-00105 (D. Haw.): probation continued

NEW Docket Entry 146 — Order on Motion for Early Termination of Probation, filed 20 June 2025

On 2 June 2025 Liane Wilson moved for early termination of the five-year probation term imposed in her federal criminal case (ECF No. 140). The United States Probation Office responded on 18 June 2025 recommending that further supervision was warranted (ECF No. 144), and the Government filed a response in opposition the same day (ECF No. 145). In this two-page minute order, United States District Judge Helen Gillmor denied the motion.

The order records that “Both Probation and the United States raise concerns about claims filed that the Defendant has defrauded people while on probation. The allegations have required investigation but have not been confirmed.” (Doc. 146, PageID.2019) Applying the factors in 18 U.S.C. § 3553(a), the Court found that “the nature and circumstances of Defendant’s underlying offense, the need for deterrence, the need to promote respect for the law, and the need to protect the public – weigh in favor of the continued supervision of Defendant. The previously imposed five years of probation remain appropriate.” The motion was DENIED.

Liana Shanti Court Documents Ex-Cult Member Speaks Out

Case 1:19-cr-00105-SOM Document 132 Filed 04/18/24 (PDF, 15 pages, PageID.1977–1991)

Document 132 is a letter and sworn “Statement of Facts” dated 11–12 April 2024, filed on the public docket of Liane Wilson’s federal criminal case on 18 April 2024. It was written by a former paying member of the Liana Shanti community of eight years and addressed to the Assistant United States Attorney and the U.S. Probation Officer supervising Wilson’s probation.

The author, whose name is redacted in the court copy, writes that after leaving the community Wilson “launched a public defamation assault against me, which is ongoing,” and reports what the author believes to be false statements of fact in Wilson’s own sworn declaration to the court (Document 117-1, filed 24 July 2023).

Four statements are addressed with attached exhibits: Wilson’s claim “I do not have any paid groups. Zero.” (PageID 1656), against which the author attaches invoices showing monthly “ILLUMINATIONS LEVEL 2” payments of $69.00 from July 2019 through March 2024; Wilson’s claim that the group “no longer exists” and “was https://lianashantiexposed.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/06114147103-2.pdf9 a month” (PageID 1660); Wilson’s claim that her sessions “were not related to divorce, custody, child abuse or any other advocacy topics” (PageID 1662), against which the author describes paying for one-on-one sessions for almost two years “with specific focus on my personal relationships, childhood abuse, and healing”.

Finally, Wilson’s statement “ZERO PEOPLE HAVE PRIVATE ACCESS TO ME,” against which the author describes direct access by messenger and phone since 2018.

The letter closes by stating that Wilson’s ongoing public attacks on the author, the author’s children and businesses also violate the terms of her probation (Exhibit 5). These are the author’s sworn allegations as filed; the court record does not show a ruling on them.

This is page 9 of Document 132, marked Exhibit 3 in the filing and presented here in reading order: a 21 March 2018 email exchange between the former member and Liane Wilson, sent from liana@lianashanti.com under the subject line “Re: Soul retrieval questions.”

The member writes that they are “purging so many emotions” and questioning their own sanity because they have no clear memories of what is surfacing. Wilson replies that “It is 100 percent normal to question your sanity when an illusion-busting truth comes to light,” tells the member “You responded to sexual trauma the way most people do,” and states that “in your cells … in your bones … in your gut.. you could feel this … you “know” this on a deep level (not the mind).”

The exhibit was filed to support the author’s statement that Wilson provided paid guidance on childhood abuse and personal healing, contrary to her declaration to the court. It is reproduced here as a public court record; readers who find this material difficult may wish to approach it with care.

Document 122-1 is a nine-page exhibit filed on the public docket of Liane Wilson’s federal criminal case on 24 July 2023 as an attachment to a notice (Doc. 122), PageID.1722–1730. The copy published here is redacted to protect the private individuals who appear in it. Its core (pages 2–5) is a set of screenshots captioned “Chat images from Paid Illuminations Signal Chat Group,” dated October–November 2021, which document the three themes named in this section.

On parental relocation, one member writes that she is moving states and “taking my daughter without telling her father. We’re bolting… and I will tell him after we’re gone. It’s all on the DL until it’s done. This is the path that is required to protect her.”

On medical misinformation, messages attributed to Liana Shanti state that “The Moderna are all death, from day one,” that “People are going to need booster after booster just to try and stay alive,” and that “The technology with each booster is getting smarter and stronger and more of a threat.”

On panic, messages attributed to Liana Shanti state that “Australia new zealand and Canada I have been saying GET OUT for a long time now” and that “Places like Australia and NZ will be more like giant prisons. No one out, no one in. Unless you’re a gmo human,” while members reply about leaving family and “the life we knew” behind.

Pages 6–9 contain annotated screenshots and a June 2023 statement from a former member, submitted anonymously “due to fear of reprisals from Liane Wilson,” describing how accusations were handled inside the group. The screenshots and statements are as submitted to the court; this page does not independently verify their authorship, and the parents who relocated are not identified here.
