On 22 May 2026, in Life Mastery Network LLC v. Haygarth (U.S. District Court, District of Hawaii, No. 1:25-cv-00297), Judge Jill A. Otake held that Liane Wilson, who operates online as Liana Shanti, is a public figure: “Here, the Court finds that Liane is a public figure.” The order describes her as a “general purpose public figure” (ECF 92 at pp. 30–31, PageID.1829–1830). THE INSTASCAMMER: a guide to the series
THE INSTASCAMMER is an eleven-part audio documentary about Liana Shanti from The Cult Vault, hosted by Kacey Baker. All eleven episodes were released on 31 August 2026, eighteen days after the jury verdicts in Life Mastery Network LLC v. Haygarth. It is free to listen to on Spreaker and Audible.
The series describes itself as being built from interviews, recordings, documents and public records, and says the experiences it presents are the accounts of the people who lived them. In Episode 1 the host states that the series draws on more than 30 interviews with former students, family members and experts. That figure is the host’s own statement about her project; this site has not independently counted the interviews.
How to read it
The series mixes three kinds of material, and they carry different weight. This page labels each episode accordingly.
- Public record. Court filings, judgments, business filings and notices from outside bodies. These can be checked against the documents themselves.
- Personal testimony. What former members and relatives say happened to them. The series presents these as personal accounts, and so does this page. They show what people experienced and how they understood it; they are not findings.
- Expert opinion. Views offered by people who study coercive groups. These are professional opinions, not rulings.
The series also says that when it uses the word “Insta Scammer” it is not alleging a criminal conviction, that ongoing legal matters are not predicted, and that some names and details were withheld or changed to protect contributors and third parties. Several episodes carry content notes about abuse allegations that the people accused dispute, and the episodes state that no findings were made. This site follows the same approach: it does not repeat allegations against private individuals, and it identifies private individuals by initials only.
Episode guide
| Ep. | Title | What the episode covers | Mainly |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | The Yellow Brick Road | The early 2010s wellness boom and Liana Shanti’s first online footprint: juice fasts, detoxes, private Facebook groups and the first paid programs. Former members describe why it felt like a healthy, supportive community. | Testimony, with archived web material |
| 2 | Paved with Good Intentions | The Health Mastery Institute and its credential claims, including a conversation with the board that issues the “certified clinical nutritionist” designation about whether she ever held it; the weekly “Illuminations” broadcast; and the Life Path program. | Credential claims checked with the issuing board; otherwise testimony |
| 3 | Brick by Brick | How the offering grew into a multi-platform ecosystem of courses, live calls and private groups, and how relatives describe the “mother wound” and “father wound” messaging entering their homes. | Testimony |
| 4 | Fracture Lines | How families describe relationships breaking down. Contains disputed allegations; the episode states that no findings were made and no charges were filed. | Testimony (disputed) |
| 5 | Behind the Wall | A family who chose to join the community anonymously in order to understand what was happening to a relative from the inside. | Testimony |
| 6 | The Architect’s Apprentice | The rise of a senior follower inside the community, and a house fire at a rental property in the United States, told by the property’s owners and another family. | Testimony (individuals concerned not heard from) |
| 7 | Structural Damage | The aftermath of that fire as the two families describe it, and documents they say they have forwarded to authorities. | Testimony, with documents described by the families |
| 8 | Following the Blueprint | Families describe a repeated pattern: spiritual protocols replacing medical advice, ordinary parenting reinterpreted, and custody disputes. | Testimony |
| 9 | Out of the Rubble | Told from both sides of one family: a former member and a relative who watched from outside. Includes a group household, and the former member’s exit. Discusses recovered memories that the episode itself says are disputed and makes no finding on. | Testimony (disputed) |
| 10 | Crashing Down | Several former members describe how the system looked from inside and how each of them left. | Testimony |
| 11 | Unveiling the Architect | The public record: the legal name on the federal court file, the bankruptcy-fraud conviction and probation, the corporate structure behind the programs, the credential dispute, families’ letters to the court and an appellate decision. It closes with four specialists in coercive groups giving their professional opinions. | Public record, then expert opinion |
What the series does not settle
Episode 11 refers to the civil trial and the verdict only briefly and says the full account is reserved for a second season. For the court’s own record of the trial and its outcome, see the Verdict and Court Cases pages on this site, and our post on THE INSTASCAMMER series. The series is independent reporting by a third party; this site did not produce it, and it is cited here as a guide to what former members and families say, not as proof of any individual claim.
